{"id":2093,"date":"2024-02-15T13:53:40","date_gmt":"2024-02-15T13:53:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reports.electricinsights.uk\/?p=2093"},"modified":"2024-02-15T13:54:22","modified_gmt":"2024-02-15T13:54:22","slug":"capacity-and-production-statistics-26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reports.electricinsights.co.uk\/?p=2093","title":{"rendered":"Capacity and production statistics"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Wind power had a record-breaking quarter, producing more than 25 TWh of electricity over the last three months of 2023.\u00a0<\/strong> This made it the largest source of electricity over the quarter, supplying more than a third of the country\u2019s demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In contrast, gas fell to its lowest share since 2015, squeezed out by more imports and less exports (so less need for power supply), and more generation from biomass and wind.&nbsp; Gas-fired electricity production was down by 24% compared to the same quarter the previous year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coal bucked its annual downwards trend, producing one-third more in Quarter 4 compared to the year before.&nbsp; For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/energy-trends\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BEIS Energy Trends<\/a> records an additional 0.7 GW of hydro, 0.6 GW of biomass and 3 GW of waste-to-energy plants.&nbsp;
