{"id":589,"date":"2020-10-15T14:23:00","date_gmt":"2020-10-15T14:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reports.electricinsights.uk\/?p=589"},"modified":"2021-03-05T14:07:31","modified_gmt":"2021-03-05T14:07:31","slug":"capacity-and-production-statistics-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reports.electricinsights.co.uk\/?p=589","title":{"rendered":"Capacity and production statistics"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>by Dr Iain Staffell &#8211; Imperial College London&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Following their&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/electricinsights.co.uk\/#\/reports\/report-2016-q4\/detail\/french-nuclear-crisis-cuts-imports-2?&amp;_k=ztdybg\">problems last quarter<\/a>, the French interconnector and nuclear fleet returned to normal, so imports gradually rose over February and hit an 12-month high in March averaging 2.9 GW (1.8 GW of which from France). <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Coal fell from 16% to 6% of the supply mix over February as imports rose and demand fell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Coal output is down nearly 30%; not because plants are seeing lower utilisation, rather because three tenths of the fleet have retired in the last year. In their place, 3.2 GW of new renewables came online in the past year, predominantly solar power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Power prices settled down from the volatility of previous quarters, suggesting the market was not so tight.
